Born in 2004, the Fain-Mantega duet approaches the Argentinean Popular music from a new point of view.
Along their repertoire it can be said they created their own and particular perspective: approaching not only to “tango” but also to Argentinean folk music with their own compositions, generating some unique and original music arrangements on classical artists such as Astor Piazzola.
Their music has a particular and genuine sound, with an intimate character, that sometimes changes, and shows itself full of virtuosity.

DISCOGRAPHY
Fain-Mantega recorded their first album called “+ TANGO” in 2006, and got the well known singer Liliana Herrarro as a star feature. This album was released simultaneously in Argentina, Germany and Austria, and had excellent critics by both the press and the audience.
+ TANGO has being sponsored by “Fondo Cultura BA” (from the Argentinean Government). It was precisely that material which made the duet win the “Bares Notables” contest in 2007, as well as be chosen by “El club del disco” as “the other album of the month”, scoring a sales record.
This CD is distributed in Argentina by South Unity Records and in Germany and Austria by Galileo Music Communication.

In March 2008 the “Der Spiegel” magazine (Germany) asked the Duet to be part of the “Tango Pasion” compiled CD that will have been sold later with the magazine in Germany. (12.000 copies)

The Duet has recently recorded their Second Album, called “Secretos en Reunión” (Secrets in meeting) in a co-production with EPSA Music.
The new release is composed mainly by Argentinean contemporary Tango and Folk pieces from Fain & Mantega. This time, Paulina Fain plays with different flutes, clarinet and piccollo.
Moreover, this CD contains the music sheets of all the Fain and Mantega compositions (PDF files) as a wish of spreading and promoting their creations all around.
This material was launched in Argentina in July 2008.

Coming soon:  In Europe, “Secretos en Reunión” will be presented in a 2-month tour, through Germany, Austria, The Netherlands, Spain and Turkey from October to November 2008.

EUROPEAN TOURS
Just within a year (from October 07 to October 08) F&M had already made 3 tours around Europe, in which the duet gave more than 50 concerts in Germany, The Netherlands, Austria, Switzerland and Italy.

 

In 2007, the duet was asked to compose 90 minutes of new Tango compositions for the original sound track of the well known Tango show “Estación: Tango!” by the Swiss foundation “Tango Adelante”. Such show was played in 10 theatres all over Switzerland and Germany. Nowadays, “Estación: Tango!” is still on stage, integrated by both Argentinean and Swiss musicians.

NEXT TOUR

On the 19th October, the duet will leave off to their 4th European Tour, which will last for 2 months. In this tour the duet will perform their new release in different theaters in Germany, Netherlands, Austria, Spain and Turkey.
The official show will take place on 15th & 16th November at the “Admiralspalast” (Berlin)
In addition, the duet will represent the country at the most important international world music expo “WOMEX 2008” that will take place in Sevilla.

The Argentinean Embassy sponsors the tour.

INSTITUTIONAL SUPPORT

In 2006, the duet got the support from the “Fondo Cultura BA” for the edition of the album “+ Tango”. In fact, It was also chosen by “El club del disco” as “the other album of the month” in August 2006, obtaining sales record.

 

In 2007, the duet won a Musical Contest called “Bares Notables”, among more than 400 participants from the city of Buenos Aires.
Since 2006, the European tours (including the upcoming one) have been sponsored by the Argentinean Embassy, who considers the “Duo Fain-Mantega” as one of the most important artistic groups of the new contemporary Argentinean Music and “ambassadors” of the folk culture of our country.

 

In July 2008, the duet was chosen by the Fondo Metropolitano de las Ciencias y las Artes, that decided to give them the subsidy from the area “Promoción de la Cultura Argentina a Nivel Nacional e Internacional”, to make the duet take part of the International Expo “WOMEX 2008” in Sevilla, because they consider:

“…That the project purpose is to improve Buenos Aires city patrimonial cultural value, having their core essence in  the tango music avant-garde expression, and considering that the Fain-Mantega duet has a permanent widely spread career nowadays, and with the intention of being appreciated for national and international audiences…”
